As African dance continues to gain global recognition, Kizomba and its modern evolution, Urban Kiz, are becoming some of the fastest-growing social dance styles in the world. Originating from Angola and now embraced across Europe, the Americas and Asia, the dance has evolved into an international cultural movement, with festivals and competitions attracting thousands of participants each year.

One of the most prestigious events on the global Kizomba calendar is the Battle Kizz World Tour, a competition that brings together elite dancers from around the world to celebrate African culture, musicality, creativity and technical excellence. Across different continents, dancers compete for the opportunity to represent their regions at the World Finals.

At this year’s United Kizdom World Congress in Cotonou, Benin, dancers from across Africa gathered for the Battle Kizz Africa Qualifiers, where Ghanaian duo Omowise x Teniola emerged victorious after a series of highly competitive rounds.

The pair impressed judges with their creativity, musical interpretation, technical precision and connection, earning the title of Africa’s Battle Kizz Champions and securing the continent’s sole qualification to the Battle Kizz World Finals in Paris, France.

Their victory marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s dance community, placing the country’s talent at the forefront of one of the world’s fastest-growing African dance platforms. It also reflects the increasing contribution of Ghanaian dancers to the preservation, promotion and global evolution of African social dances.

Representing Africa on the world stage, Omowise x Teniola will compete against continental champions from Europe, Asia, North America and South America in Paris later this year, carrying the hopes of both Ghana and the African dance community.

Their qualification is being celebrated as a proud moment not only for the dancers themselves but also for Ghana’s creative arts sector, highlighting the power of dance as a cultural export and a bridge that connects people across borders.
