Stonebwoy has opened up about the profound impact of losing his mother, saying he is yet to come to terms with her death and continues to draw strength from her memory every day.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa, the award-winning musician said the pain of losing his mother remains fresh, describing her as his backbone and greatest source of inspiration.

“My mom was literally my backbone. My mom was literally inspiring me and talking to me every day.”

Stonebwoy admitted that despite the passage of time, he has not been able to move on from the loss.

“I can never get over it. I’ve not gotten over it. It puts me in such a mood, but I quickly channel it into energy.”

The musician also offered words of encouragement to people who have lost their parents, noting that only those who have experienced such a loss can truly understand the emotional pain that comes with it.

“To all those who have lost their parents, it’s another thing feeling or sharing condolences with somebody, and it’s another thing knowing how they feel. You are not alone, and life is a journey. We have to continue to make them proud.”

Reflecting on the role his mother played in his life, Stonebwoy recalled how she constantly encouraged him, especially after the accident that nearly claimed his leg.

“She used to tell me, ‘That’s not how you were when I gave birth to you. You went through an accident, keep going. Don’t mind anybody. Don’t watch whatever they say. So long as you have life, prove to the world that God uses those who seem hopeless to show the world how hopeful they can be.”
