Afro-dancehall star Stonebwoy has opened up about the life-changing accident that nearly cost him his leg, disclosing that he lived with a severely damaged knee for 13 years before undergoing a total knee replacement surgery in Germany.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa’s DJ Edu, monitored by GhanaWeekend, the award-winning musician disclosed that he spent nearly four months in hospital after the accident and was at risk of having his leg amputated.
“I was in the hospital for like, give-and-take, four months straight… I had to live with a stiff knee. It was damaged for like a whole 13 years.”
He explained that in 2016 he travelled to Germany, where doctors performed a total knee replacement, fitting him with a prosthesis that has enabled him to continue his active career.
Despite the physical challenges, Stonebwoy said he refused to let the injury derail his education or his music ambitions. He insisted on returning to school on crutches, telling his parents he could not remain at home.
“I told my parents I can’t stay at home,” he recalled. “I was on my crutches in senior high school.”
