Stonebwoy has described his 2015 BET Awards win as the defining moment of his career, saying the achievement opened global doors for both him and the Afro-dancehall genre.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa, the award-winning artiste said winning the Best International Act: Africa at the BET Awards shortly after being crowned Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards marked a turning point in his musical journey.
“When I won the BETs in 2015, that actually broke the door.
“I won the Ghana Music Awards somewhere in May, and then in June, I’m winning the BETs at the same time. That’s a significant moment in my life that can never change.”
According to the “Go Higher” hitmaker, the recognition on both the local and international stages gave him greater visibility and helped elevate Afro-dancehall beyond Ghana’s borders.
He noted that he released his hit song Go Higher song shortly after the BET win, further strengthening his growing international profile.
“Immediately after which I released ‘Go Higher’, which actually broke the door,” he said.
Reflecting on the milestone, Stonebwoy said every artiste has defining moments in their career, but his 2015 achievements remain unmatched.
