Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has opened up about her time in prison, describing it as one of the most difficult experiences of her life.
Speaking during a recent TikTok Live session, Agradaa urged Ghanaians to obey the law, stressing that prison is a harsh reality that affects everyone regardless of their social or financial status.
According to her, one of the most painful aspects of incarceration was having to respond with the length of her sentence whenever prison officers called her name.
“In prison, when they mention your name, you have to respond with the number of years you were sentenced. Nothing made me feel worse than hearing my name and having to answer with 15 years.”
Agradaa disclosed that she often struggled to say the sentence aloud because she found it difficult to accept the reality of the punishment.
“Sometimes, I don’t even answer loudly for someone to hear because I refused to accept the 15-year sentence,” she added.
She said the experience taught her valuable lessons and cautioned the public against engaging in activities that could lead to imprisonment.
“I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. It wasn’t easy for me in prison. You all should be careful because prison is real. It doesn’t know the rich or the poor,” she stated.
Agradaa further noted that prison constantly reminds inmates of their circumstances.
“If you’re there and you forget you’re in prison, immediately your name is mentioned, you will remember where you are,” she said.
She also claimed that one of the most frightening aspects of imprisonment is what happens when an inmate dies while serving a sentence.
“The scary part is, when you die in prison, your corpse is not for your family anymore. Your family can’t just come and claim your body to organise your funeral. Since you’re in prison, you belong to the government,” she alleged.
