ShattaFest UK, also known as Ghana Party in the Park, has been temporarily paused following a major incident at the festival grounds at Copthall Playing Fields in London.
Eyewitnesses said police at the scene informed crowds that the event had been cancelled after severe overcrowding at the entrance reportedly triggered a crush, causing several attendees to collapse. Emergency services were seen responding to the situation.
However, organisers have not confirmed the cancellation. In a public safety notice shared across their social media platforms, they stated that the event had been “temporarily paused” due to a major incident and urged the public not to travel to the venue until further notice.
“Due to a major incident at the festival site, the event has been temporarily paused,” the statement read. “Please do not travel to or come to the festival site until further notice.”
The organisers said emergency services and relevant authorities were managing the situation and appealed to the public to stay away from the area to allow responders to carry out their work safely.
“We kindly ask everyone to stay away from the area to allow them to carry out their work safely. We will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available,” the statement added.
As of the time of publication, there has been no official confirmation from emergency services regarding the number of people injured or the exact cause of the incident.
ShattaFest UK, popularly known as Ghana Party in the Park, is one of the largest annual gatherings of the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom, attracting thousands of revellers for a day of music, culture and entertainment.
