Nigerian musician Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has accused his elder brother and former P-Square manager, Jude Okoye, of wanting to position himself as the “Don Jazzy” of the famous music duo.
Mr P made the allegation in a series of videos, where he also questioned Jude’s contribution to the success of P-Square and accused him of overstating his role in the group’s rise.
According to Peter, Jude became increasingly concerned about the success and influence of Mo’Hits, the record label founded by Nigerian music executive and producer Don Jazzy, which dominated the Nigerian music scene alongside P-Square and 2Baba in the 2000s.
Peter alleged that his elder brother wanted the spotlight and expected him and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, to present him as the mastermind behind P-Square’s success.
“All Jude wanted was for Paul and me to project him as the Don Jazzy of P-Square,” Peter alleged.
He further alleged that Jude would often answer questions directed at the twins during media engagements, reinforcing what Peter described as his brother’s desire to be seen as the face and driving force behind the group.
Peter also challenged Jude’s contribution to P-Square’s music, arguing that his involvement became significant only after the duo had already established themselves in the music industry.
According to him, he and Paul were responsible for producing P-Square’s albums, while most of their music videos were directed by acclaimed cinematographer Clarence Peters.
Peter also claimed responsibility for shooting the highly choreographed videos for some of P-Square’s major hits, including “Alingo”, “Shekina” and “Personally”.
The latest allegations form part of a renewed public escalation of the long-running dispute between the Okoye brothers.
In several videos shared on Instagram, Peter has made a series of allegations against his brothers, accusing them of bullying, harassment and financial misconduct.
He has also alleged that his brothers connived to take millions of dollars from him. The financial dispute has reportedly become the subject of an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and litigation before the courts.
Peter further opened up about tensions within the family, revealing that his mother and elder brother Henry initially opposed his relationship with his then-partner and now wife, Lola Omotayo.
He said his mother and Henry eventually apologised to him but claimed Paul and Jude did not.
Jude Okoye has since responded to Peter’s allegations in a video, denying the accusations against him.
Meanwhile, Paul Okoye’s management, in a statement, described the matter as a family issue and said it would be handled responsibly.
The latest development adds another layer to the decade-long fallout between the Okoye brothers, whose partnership as P-Square once made them one of Africa’s most successful musical duos.
