Celebrated Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has disclosed that a chance encounter with dancehall star Stonebwoy on a flight led to the much-anticipated remix of his classic song, “Odo Nwom.”
Ofori Amponsah said he had been considering a remix of the song for about two years before he eventually re-recorded it and began looking for an artiste to feature on the new version.
The idea took an unexpected turn when he met Stonebwoy on a flight and mentioned the project to him.
Ofori Amponsah said Stonebwoy immediately expressed his love for the original song and asked to be part of the remix.
“We met Stonebwoy, and we were talking about the song. And he said, ‘Ah Charlie, this song is a song that I like.’ I said, I’m remixing it. And he said, ‘Then give it to me,’” he recounted in an interview with Kafui Dey shared on X.
The Highlife veteran explained that he had already sent the song to Ghanaian musician KiDi before the encounter with Stonebwoy.
After Stonebwoy recorded his part, KiDi also contributed to the project, a development Ofori Amponsah described as almost “divine.”
“So I had sent the song to KiDi already. And so after Stone recorded his part, KiDi also did it. And it was just like, it was kind of divine.”
Ofori Amponsah also admitted that he did not anticipate the level of attention the remix would receive, saying he initially approached the project casually.
“I just consider myself a musician. I just create a song. What people call it, I don’t care. The song is doing well. I’m surprised at the reception of the song because I thought we were just joking with it, but it’s making waves.”
The remix brought together three generations of Ghanaian music, with Ofori Amponsah’s classic Highlife sound meeting Stonebwoy’s dancehall influence and KiDi’s contemporary style.

I met @stonebwoy on a flight, and he told me how much he liked the original ‘Odo Nwom’.
When I mentioned I was working on a remix, he asked me to give it to him.
I had already planned to have @KiDiMusic on the remix, so everything came together beautifully.
