Head of the Department of Dance Studies at the University of Ghana, Dr. Terry Ofosu-Bright, has opened up about his long-standing passion for dance, disclosing that his journey in the art form began while he was still a student in secondary school in the 1980s.

Dr. Ofosu-Bright, who has since built a career around dance education, performance and academic research, said his love for dancing developed at a relatively young age and remained an important part of his life as he grew older.

Speaking on the Upside Down show with Frema Adunyame on Channel One TV on Sunday, August 16, he explained that dancing had always been part of his life while growing up.

“I started dancing in secondary form two and that will be around 1980.”

Dr. Ofosu-Bright said his early start in dance also meant that he had several years of experience to develop his skills, participate in competitions and deepen his understanding of the discipline before eventually making it a major part of his professional life.

Beyond dance itself, Dr. Ofosu-Bright also spoke about physical activity and the role it has played in his life.

He attributed his youthful appearance and continued physical vitality to his commitment to staying active, particularly through jogging.

He said that his decision to take up jogging was closely connected to his participation in the National Dancing Competition.

He recalled competing in the competition in 1987, where he finished fifth.

“After I participated in the National Dancing Competition in 1987, where I came fifth, I started jogging for one year and then I participated again and I came third and I started jogging the next day.”
