Head of the Department of Dance Studies at the University of Ghana, Dr. Terry Ofosu-Bright, has disclosed that his journey into dance was not initially part of his career plans, as he began his secondary school education as a Science student before eventually discovering a stronger passion for the performing arts.
Dr. Ofosu-Bright said that while he had always possessed a natural talent for dancing while growing up, he did not initially consider it as something he would pursue professionally in the future.
Speaking on the Upside Down show with Frema Adunyame on Channel One TV on Sunday, August 16, he explained that his early interest in dance was simply something he regarded as a personal talent rather than a potential career path.
Dr. Ofosu-Bright narrated that he completed his basic education at Burma Camp, passed the Common Entrance Examinations and proceeded to St. Peter’s Secondary School, where he initially pursued Science.
However, his interests began to change during his time at secondary school, eventually leading him to reconsider the direction of his education and future career.
“I wasn’t looking at dance as something I would do in the future because it was just a talent to me. I finished Burma Camp, passed the Common Entrance Exams and went to St. Peter’s Secondary School and then all of sudden, I realised I wanted to dance.
“I was a Science student and realised I wanted to dance and so with my Arts exams, I did Arts One and Arts Two and I was left with Arts Five when I left school and came to Accra.”
For Dr. Ofosu-Bright, what began as a childhood talent gradually developed into a serious interest that eventually influenced his educational choices and professional life.
