Ghana Food Movement (GFM), a network dedicated to transforming Ghana’s food system, has won the 2026 Champions of Change Award, sponsored by Illy, as part of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Co-directed by Abdallah Smith and Aimée Wallin, GFM was recognised for its work to promote a stronger and more sustainable food culture in Ghana.
The organisation brings together people across the food sector and uses its Accra hub, The Kitchen, to provide culinary training, education and opportunities for collaboration.
According to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, GFM is driven by a mission to “encourage change in a challenging food system” and seeks to “build a more sustainable food industry.”
The post also highlighted the organisation’s focus on “the country’s wealth of diverse produce” and its efforts to showcase “local produce and indigenous crops” alongside Ghana’s food heritage and culture.
The award celebrates GFM’s contribution to reshaping Ghana’s food landscape through education, local sourcing and community engagement.
