Renowned Ghanaian poet, writer, media practitioner and activist Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey has been appointed an ambassador for the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF).
Apiorkor, who is also the Head of Programmes Production at Accra-based ChannelOne TV, joins the festival’s efforts to promote African cinema, support independent filmmakers and strengthen cultural exchange through film.
The Black Star International Film Festival is an annual film event founded in 2015 by filmmaker Juliet Asante.
The festival celebrates African and global cinema while creating platforms for independent filmmakers to showcase their work and access training and distribution opportunities.
The festival also seeks to build connections among filmmakers, industry professionals and film enthusiasts through screenings, masterclasses, panel discussions and networking opportunities.
The 11th edition of BSIFF is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 27, 2026, at Golden Eagle Cinemas in Kumasi.
The 2026 edition marks the first time the festival will be held outside Accra, bringing its programme of film screenings, industry engagements and cultural exchange to Ghana’s Ashanti Region.
Apiorkor’s appointment adds her extensive experience in media, literature, advocacy and the creative arts to the festival as it continues to spotlight African stories and independent filmmaking.
