Ghanaian musician, songwriter and producer Obofour Raphael has entered the race for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards with submissions spanning four categories.
The artiste is seeking consideration with his 18-track album, “Adom Akyedeɛ,” alongside the songs “Ahoofe” and “Awula,” according to his official ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign page.
“Adom Akyedeɛ” has been submitted for consideration in the Best Global Music Album category, while “Ahoofe” is being put forward for Best Global Music Performance and Best Jazz Performance.
His standalone single, “Awula,” is also being submitted for consideration in the Best African Music Performance category.
The campaign highlights Obofour Raphael’s attempt to present his music to the international music industry while showcasing elements of Ghanaian musical traditions alongside contemporary sounds.
“Adom Akyedeɛ,” which means “Gift of Grace” in Twi, is an 18-track project that explores themes of love, tradition, everyday life, rivalry and faith.
The album brings together a diverse group of Ghanaian musicians and creatives, including KK Kabobo, George Jahraa, Kojo Cue, Tillie Gya, Nana Ama, Swazzy B and Pearl Korkor Darkey.
It also features American rapper Sadat X, a member of the influential hip-hop group Brand Nubian.
The project’s production credits include some of Ghana’s notable producers and sound engineers, including Zapp Mallet, Kuvie, Morris Babyface, Altra Nova, Buddy Roro, Old Swat and Ivan Beatz.
“Ahoofe,” one of the key songs in the campaign, features Nana Ama and Kojo Cue. The original recording is being submitted for consideration in the Best Global Music Performance category, while a jazz version from the same recording session has been submitted for Best Jazz Performance.
The song combines contemporary Ghanaian musical influences with elements of jazz, reinforcing Raphael’s attempt to demonstrate the versatility of his artistic style.
His other submission, “Awula,” was released on March 5, 2026, and is being considered separately from the “Adom Akyedeɛ” album.
The song features background vocals from Nana Ama, guitars by Dominic Quarchie of Santrofi and violin by Thomas Kwame Woernle. Raphael is credited with lead vocals, production and arrangements, while Kin Dee handled production and engineering.
Obofour Raphael, born Silvanus Raphael Oduro Dickson, has been involved in music for more than two decades.
His campaign profile presents him as a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer with more than 100 songs released.
The project also has an international dimension, with Sadat X contributing to the album and a sample-interpolation clearance connected to British singer Craig David through Warner Chappell Music and Round Hill Publishing.
Raphael’s multiple-category campaign comes as Ghanaian musicians continue to seek stronger representation at the Grammys and greater international recognition for Ghana’s diverse musical traditions.
However, the submissions should not be confused with Grammy nominations. A ‘For Your Consideration’ submission means the recordings are being presented for potential consideration by the Recording Academy voting members; it does not guarantee a nomination.
Obofour Raphael’s campaign is therefore the beginning of the Grammy process, with the ultimate outcome depending on the Academy’s eligibility, screening and voting processes.
