Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has responded to Sarkodie’s recent message to his SarkNation fanbase, questioning the principle behind the rapper’s advice on artiste rivalries and online fan battles.
Sarkodie, in a post shared on X on Monday, September 7, urged members of SarkNation to focus on protecting his brand rather than attacking other artistes or engaging in unnecessary fanbase wars.
He also cautioned his fanbase against tearing down other artistes to prove their loyalty to him, while encouraging them to avoid online bait and toxic behaviour.
Responding to the post, Stonebwoy referenced a series of interactions between the two artistes following their respective international concerts, including Sarkodie’s Rapperholic event in the UK and Stonebwoy’s headline performance at OVO Wembley Arena.
Stonebwoy said he called Sarkodie after the latter’s UK show to congratulate him and that they spoke for more than 10 minutes.
He added that following his OVO performance, Sarkodie posted what Stonebwoy described as a “second video” on social media, prompting him to question the message the rapper intended to communicate.
Stonebwoy further said that after he made what he described as a factual post, he reached out to Sarkodie again after noticing what he considered cryptic posts from the rapper.
According to Stonebwoy, Sarkodie returned his call and the two subsequently spoke for more than an hour about the music industry, artiste behaviour and their differing perspectives.
Stonebwoy claimed that during that conversation, Sarkodie expressed the view that artistes cannot be forced to uphold particular principles and that musicians ultimately make choices based on what benefits them.
Referencing Sarkodie’s latest message to SarkNation, Stonebwoy said the rapper’s public position should be considered alongside the two social media posts he referenced.
“Without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION,” Stonebwoy stated.
His response appears to question whether artistes can effectively advise their fanbases on how to conduct themselves without consistently demonstrating the principles they advocate.
The exchange adds another layer to the ongoing conversation around artiste relationships, fanbase rivalries and the responsibilities of Ghanaian musicians in shaping the behaviour of their supporters online.
