A 29-year-old woman in North Miami Beach, Florida, has been charged with four counts of child neglect after authorities say she left her four children, including a two-month-old baby, home alone while she went on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas.
According to police, Nathalie Belizaire’s children — a two-month-old, a two-year-old, a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old- were found without adult supervision inside her apartment on September 26.
The children were reportedly discovered together in a bathroom after the father of the two-month-old called 911.
Investigators say Belizaire had told the children’s great-grandmother that she would leave the children in her care before travelling.
Police allege that never happened. Instead, investigators determined that Belizaire had boarded the Carnival Conquest for a three-day trip to the Bahamas on September 25.
Authorities arrested her when she returned to Port Miami on September 28. She faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
During her bond hearing, a judge expressed concern over the children’s ages, particularly the infant who had been born only two months earlier. Belizaire’s attorney said she denies the allegations.
A $10,000 total bond was set, and she was ordered to stay away from the children. The children were reported safe and placed in foster care while the case proceeds.
