The organising committee of the Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming Festival (GJHCF), in collaboration with the Black Star Experience, has officially unveiled Morgan Heritage and Samini as headline performers for the festival’s landmark debut in Accra.
The three-time Grammy-winning reggae royalty group and the MOBO-decorated Ghanaian reggae-dancehall pioneer are the first of many global showstoppers to be confirmed by the festival’s president, Ishmael Kwasi Hanson.
Scheduled for December 4th & 5th, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, the Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming Festival, which features a business summit, is designed to operate as a dual platform: combining high-level trade and investment panels with major music performances at night featuring reggae, dancehall, highlife, and Afrobeats artists.
The two-day event in December 2026 marks one of the most high-profile cultural and trade crossovers between Ghana, Jamaica and the wider African diaspora in recent years. The festival was launched in March 2026 amid expanding diplomatic and cultural engagement between West Africa and the Caribbean, driven by visa-free travel agreements, multilateral reparation dialogues, and growing heritage tourism.
“This festival transcends traditional cultural celebration into actionable partnership,” said Ishmael Kwasi Hanson, President of the Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming Festival.
Bringing together global reggae heavyweights like Morgan Heritage and African music icons like Samini on a single stage in Accra underscores the shared heritage and economic potential connecting Africa and the Caribbean.
Their songs are my personal favourite. Beyond that, they have built careers and legacies worth championing. Our ultimate goal for the Ghana Jamaica Homecoming Festival initiative is to create a structured gateway to celebrate Afro-Caribbean arts and direct long-term investments towards trade, tourism and development.
Morgan Heritage, a roots-reggae group founded by children of the late reggae singer Denroy Morgan, has long maintained strong links to the African continent, previously recording and touring across West and East Africa. Samini, a MOBO Award winner, is widely recognised as a foundational figure in contemporary Ghanaian music and live performance culture.
