Nollywood actor Francis Duru has died following a brief illness, his family has announced.
The family confirmed his death on Friday, October 23, 2026, in a statement published on the actor’s verified Instagram page, expressing appreciation to those who have offered prayers, love and support during the difficult period.
The announcement did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding his death but called for understanding as the family comes to terms with the loss.
“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness. We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
Francis Duru was among the familiar faces in Nollywood, where his acting career helped establish him as a recognisable figure to audiences across different generations.
Although he was born in Cameroon, Duru made his mark in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, becoming part of the generation of actors whose performances helped shape Nollywood’s growth and reach.
His career connected him with viewers who followed Nigerian films over the years, as the industry expanded its audience beyond the country and across the African continent and the diaspora.
His death is also a deeply personal loss for his family, coming two years after the death of his youngest son, Ifeanyi, in 2024.
The loss of his son was an earlier tragedy for the family, making the latest announcement another difficult chapter for those closest to the actor.
The family has asked for prayers, love and understanding as it mourns his death.
