John Dumelo has questioned what will be the fate of a large number of Ghanaians who live on ‘hand to mouth’ jobs in case the government decides to lock down the country.
Citizens continue to mount pressure on the government to consider a total lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus especially as numbers increase by the day.
The president, however, noted that all options have to be exhausted and that decisions are being taken to make sure it is the only option.
John Dumelo took time Twitter to discuss the repercussions of the lockdown and the measures to make it effective.
According to him, the government might pay workers since they will not be able to work during the lockdown adding that “but what about those who sell on the streets, the shoeshine guy, the woman who sells bread and egg in the evenings at Shiashi, How will they pay bills? Is there a bailout for them?”
He continued to say, “It’s going to be tough to hand financial bailouts to small business operators( shoe shine guys, bread and egg sellers etc) because most of them are not hooked to the tax system”
It’s going to be tough to hand financial bailouts to small business operators( shoe shine guys, bread and egg sellers etc) because most of them are not hooked to the tax system. But here is what I suggest https://t.co/qX5R2iZpvd

Suggesting what he thinks could make the lockdown effective while making sure people are safe he listed a number of things including the reduction of electricity and water tariffs, fuel prices, among other things.
As of March 27 2020, Ghana has confirmed a total of 136 cases of the coronavirus, 3 deaths, 1 recovery while giving intensive care to the patients and tracing their contacts.
