Renowned producer, Quincy Jones and rapper T.I will visit Ghana this year as part of the “Year of Return,” a movement aimed at reuniting the global African diaspora as well as to commemorate 400 years since Africans were first shipped to the Americas to work as slaves, in what is known as the most egregious chapter in the history of the continent.

This was made known by Tourism Minister, Hon. Catherine Afeku on Accra-based Kasapa FM on the sidelines of the State of the Nation Adress, currently being delivered by Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to parliament.

Already, the likes of Naomi Campbell, Boris Kodjoe, Idris Elba, Bozoma St John, Edward Enninful, Anthony Anderson, EBRO among others have made the all important trip to the country, and more people are expected in what many predict will be a mass exodus back to the motherland. In fact, next week, 85 prominent Americans are scheduled to visit Ghana next week as part of the “Year of Return.” initiative.

85, Quincy Jones is a renowned American record producer, musician, composer, and film producer whose career has spanned over sixty years. He holds a record 80 Grammy Award nominations, and in 1992, was bestowed with a Grammy Legend Award. He’s most famed for his works with Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Van Halen, Nik Kershaw, Dinah Washington, Karina Pasian, Nana Mouskouri, Dean Martin, Aaliya, and a host of other global pop stars.

Born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., T.I, an Atlanta native, is a seasoned rapper and actor, and credited as a founder of the hip-hop sub-genre, Trap. He’s author of multiple commercially successful bodies of work, and recipient of multiple high-profile laurels.

The arrival of these two music giant will certainly be feverishly anticipated by the showbiz fraternity in particular, and the nation as a whole.
