Ghanaian dance hall musician Stonebwoy has responded to claim by Tic that the music industry has been been hijacked by a few artistes.
Tic had earlier expressed his displeasure about a few musicians hijacking the music scene on Citi TV.
“How can we have in a whole year, only three artistes doing shows when the whole nation has 100 artistes?” he asked.
But according to the dancehall artistes such comments get him scared because he would also not be on top forever.
“I understand his thing. But you see, we shouldn’t be too happy about some of these things. When I hear people come out like that, I fear. I was there when Tic was on top. I was studio rat at the time,” he said.
He said musicians need to check what they can do to make sure they can always soar. “There are people who are 50 years and still kicking in the game,” he noted.
Stonebwoy also blamed the system for not depriving older musicians of their real value.
“When things turn out properly, music is supposed to be ‘the older you grow, you grow with your price.’ So that you would be able to afford the older musician than the younger guy,” he noted.
He further noted that: “if systems were really fit Tic and co should be the most expensive more than some of us today.”
Stonebwoy said in as much as he agrees the system has not been favourable to up and coming artistes and the older ones, musicians should play their cards well to be relevant.
“I think that it is how we position ourselves in these times and not even bother about certain things,” he said.
He acknowledged that Tic and his contemporaries enjoyed opportunities that came their way when they were in their prime and would have wished they got higher value that they have at present.
According to the Top Skanka artiste “people get used to certain style and it is like a ritual or culture now which is also part of the problem,” he noted.
