Sarkodie was adjudged the Artiste of the Decade at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
This is a special award instituted by the organisers of the awards, Charter House, as part of its 20th anniversary to reward an artiste who have excelled since 2009.
During its 10th anniversary, a similar category was created for artistes who emerged and became relevant within that period.
Since the nominees for the Artistes of the Decade were released, a lot of discussions and debates have gone on among entertainment enthusiasts, with most adducing different reasons to support their favourites.
The list of nominees were Efya, Becca, Sarkodie, No Tribe, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Joe Mettle, Okyeame Kwame and Samini.
Sarkodie made a grand entry into the music industry in 2019 with his ‘Maakye’ album.
He has also released commercially successful albums such as ‘Rapperholic’, ‘Sarkology’, ‘Mary’ and ‘Highest.’
He is the only artiste among the 8 with the highest number of VGMA nominations – and he is the only one that has won the Artiste of the Year award twice since 2009.
