Fantana, a new artiste signed onto Rufftown Records shot down talks that she would have problems with Wendy Shay, who is also on the label.
When asked on Hitz FM she would have any clash with her label mate, Wendy Shay, she said they do different things so there’s no possibility of a clash.
“In general everybody will say competition because it’s two women on one label but I feel like everybody is minding their own business, everybody is in their own lane and everybody is chasing their own dreams so no one is really like clashing. We’re going two separate routes”, she said.
She added that women in the music industry are not getting enough support as is needed.
“I feel like here with females, it’s not as easy to become famous or for people to pay attention to you or listen to you. You have to like work harder and it’s hard for people to uplift women who say they wanna do music. Right now it’s only the men who really get attention so I feel like we all need to empower each other even with music, even if there are groups where you can help other women who wanna become musicians to motivate them and speak to them so they can keep pushing”.
Although she agrees women are not pushing enough, she has asked that same support be given to female musicians as is given to male acts.
“They are not pushing enough but I also feel like they are not being supported enough either because a male can come out with one song and you guys can play it over and over and over again so if a female comes out with one song, you guys need to play it over and over and over again the same way you’re playing a rap song, you need to also play a female song as well cos you’re pushing the song even if it’s just one song, you’re still pushing the female to be noticed”, she said.
Narrating how she became a signed act on the RuffTown Records, she said she was introduced to Bullet by Wendy Shay.
“I met him through Wendy. She gave me Bullet’s number. We’re friends, label mates, friends. We’re not jealous of each other”, she said.
For now, Fantana has only a song, (‘So What’) to her name.
