Rapper, Sarkodie released Lucky, one of the songs off his ‘Black Love’ album with a controversial artwork that trended on social media.
During a phone interview on daybreak hitz with Andy Dosty, he explained the artwork, his choice of models for the artwork and added that the album was to create awareness about appreciating love and the black skin.
When asked what he was trying to say with the artwork, he said: “I had something visually that I wanted to see. It’s two models that I had in mind and the first one I was looking for somebody who really really you know there’s this indigenous African look that obviously is relative but for me I see that to be like the raw African black look.”
“And then I scouted around and came across the model that I used so I called her and then I called the guy as well so I did the photoshoot and every expression that they had goes with the song so when you say you are lucky to have somebody that’s the pose they had for it so every song that’s going to come after lucky will definitely follow that pattern so that’s generally the idea behind it”.
He also responded to claims of people seeing two men on the artwork instead of a man and woman.
“I didn’t see it like that, maybe probably because I was there for the shoot and I knew the girl for like a minute so I kinda like know she’s not a man so maybe my mind doesn’t work that same way but I could understand somebody who is seeing it especially as it was very small in there and you have to like zoom in to see the girl and then she doesn’t have hair and all that so I can see why people will assume that that’s what it is but she’s like a very top model out there in the states so you could even check her out,” Sarkodie said.
Answering whether or not he is trying to play on people’s minds he replied in the negative.
Sarkodie is about to release his Black Love album.
