Media personality, George Quaye has asked people to believe in the president’s decision to call lift the lockdown imposed some parts of Ghana.
The lockdown which is one of the measures adopted to curb the spread of coronavirus was instituted in Accra, Kumasi, and Kasoa effective March 30, 2020.
It was initially a two-week lockdown but the president in his fifth address to the nation extended it by a week to allow for extensive contact tracing and testing of the people.
In the president’s address on April 19, 2020, he lifted the lockdown but social gatherings are still banned, borders are closed for two more weeks and people have been advised to stay at home and use a mask if there is the need to step out.
Although people have been complaining about hunger and discomfort of staying indoors for weeks, they are not in agreement with the president’s order especially after the president announced the number of confirmed cases has risen to 1042.
In a post on Facebook, George Quaye stated that the president is not an idiot, neither is he surrounding by “airheads”.
He said: “I’m pretty sure a lot of deep thought, debates, conversations, arguments, and counter-arguments went into the decision to “unlock” the “lockdown.”
Also stressing on the precautionary measures, he said, “as mentioned in one of his addresses (if I am not mistaken), your front door is your personal frontline hero in this battle against COVID-19.
If you have nothing doing in town, please #stayhome! If you NEED to step out, please follow all the safety protocols and WEAR A FACE MASK!
If your employer insists you come to work, ensure he’s also made the environment safe. If he hasn’t, invest in your own safety! Your safety is your priority. The lockdown has been unlocked. Let’s kick Ghana’s economic motor into motion again please.”
