Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has expressed his interest in marijuana plantation, granted the government permits it.
Speaking on Hitz FM Cruise Control where he talked about his album and progress, the host asked him if he would love to venture into farming marijuana in large quantity with a license.
After asking for clarification, he noted, “Once the government who regulates all affairs and knows the purpose of some things, why some things happen, do you think the government will just legalize the commercial export of marijuana for just any reason? No. The government knows the benefit of it that’s why he is encouraging the citizens who can afford to, to do so if I consider it as a viable business which it is because if the government sign under, why not?”
In 2019, Parliament passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill to decriminalize the use of cannabis for health and industrial use.
The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) however, will still have the mandate to control and eliminate the trafficking of prohibited narcotic drugs to ensure public safety.
The new law also empowers the Minister for Interior to grant licences for the cultivation of cannabis of not more than 0.3 per cent THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that gives the users a high sensation, for industrial and medicinal purposes.
Punishment for the cannabis-related offences has also been stiffened, according to a source on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament.
