Some musicians have welcomed the idea of building a standardised recording studio across the nation.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the launch of their 2020 election campaign said if they are voted into power, will establish large recording studios in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi.
This will be available to artistes especially the ones who cannot afford their own studios to rent for music recordings.
Ghana Weekend.com interviewed some artistes and record producers to seek their opinions on the promise.
Speaking to popular record producer, JMJ, he noted that a studio is a good idea but he sceptical it will remain a promise considering the fact that lots of promises from the past are yet to come to life.
“Nicely written. If only it will be done as promised. I’m also in the know about the old promises that haven’t seen the dawn of day. So, nice ideas if only it will be done. It will add up greatly,” JMJ said.
Dope Nation who are known for giving artistes including Shatta Wale, Ebony, Fameye, among others hit songs also said a studio will greatly benefit the industry.
“The idea of building a standard studio for artistes in Ghana to use is a very brilliant idea. I feel we need a structure like that because lots of underground and up and coming artistes complain of the fact that they cannot fend for their studio productions and stuff like that,” they said.
Asked if the studio will not be a waste of resources considering the fact that most artistes record their own songs right in their bedrooms, they feel otherwise.
They believe a studio made readily available to all artistes also gives the up and coming artiste the chance to meet renowned producers like themselves.
“Most of us have our own studios but I’m speaking from a producer’s side of view because of the fact that people who do not know how to produce and don’t even get the access to studios can also get that access and it’ll make way for a lot of stuff like getting a producer like myself to be in the studio same with an up and coming artiste that has ever wanted to be in the studio with Dope Nation, I mean that could happen,” they indicated.
For an emerging artiste who pays between GHS 1500 and GHS 3000 to get good production, Iona is also elated about the promise.
“The main problem with most artiste is lack of funds and not lack of talent. So, if there will be a recording studio that will give high quality at a cheaper rate, why not,” she quizzed.
Aside from the recording studio, the NPP also promised to set up creative arts fund to support artistes, construct new theatres in Takoradi and Tamale, a digital platform for artists to make their products available to the global market.
