Wendy Shay is back! When I say she is back, I don’t mean to say she went on a hiatus or got missing from the system.
She is back to what she fed people when she started music about three years ago: puns, double entendres, wordplay, and mischief.
These attributes, ingrained in the songwriting prowess of Bullet, Wendy’s manager, were what catapulted her to the limelight. They sounded prosaic at a point but this new jam called ‘Heat’ is hot.
I have not fallen in love with the song because of the wordplay. It has a beautiful groove.
Her ‘Shayning Star’ even though a fairly good production, did not receive the razzmatazz that had characterized most of her songs. And I still maintain Bullet needs more great songwriters in his camp.
But back to the wordplay. Wendy Shay (or her writer) decided to tell the story of Nana Aba Anamoah, Abena Korkor, Serwaa Amihere, and John Boadu through words and melody. That is creative and controversial.
She did not really mention anybody’s name, but one could infer where she is headed with those lines.
You still don’t catch the drift?
