The Interim Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) Rex Omar, has said that the royalty collection body has an amount of GH¢30,000 to be paid to dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show with Kafui Dey, Rex Omar said as part of their December 2021 royalty distributions, Shatta Wale will be receiving the highest amount of GHS30,000.
“Shatta Wale’s money with GHAMRO is over GH¢30,000 cedis, we’re only waiting for his management to bring us his account details so that the money will be paid into his account,” Rex Omar said.
He added that GHAMRO has not been working 100%, but it is a work in progress.
The organisation started distributing royalties in December 2021 and continued in January 2022.
This year’s distribution has been in two folds, the General and the Title Specific, which also includes movies received from CAPASSO of South Africa for works used on the online digital platforms.
Whilst the general distribution ensures that Right Owners receive royalty payments across board, the title specific will cater for monitored logs from local networks and the online streaming distribution.
Artistes like Stonebwoy and Celestine Donkor, since the latest distribution, have stated that they have received astronomical increases in their royalties.
