The Ghanaian music industry is stunned by the news that 20-year-old Afrobeats sensation Olivetheboy has topped Chartmetric’s list of the top 5 most streamed Ghanaian artists in the first half of 2023.

According to the report, the list of most streamed Ghanaian artists in the first half of 2023 included high-profile acts such as King Promise, Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Gyakie, Camidoh and the golden boy KiDi.

The report, which was compiled by renowned music data analytics giants Chartmetrics and Soundcharts, analyzed streaming data from January to June 2023 for Ghanaian musicians and their songs across five different streaming platforms: Spotify, Audiomack, TikTok, Boomplay, and YouTube.

King Promise’s “Terminator” and Stonebwoy’s “Into the Future” were both well-deserved inclusions on the list, but the biggest surprise was the ousting of established artists such as Black Sheriff, Gyakie, Camidoh and KiDi by 20-year-old newcomer Olivetheboy.

Olive who??!! Olivetheboy…

The budding musician burst onto the scene in May 2023 with his hit single “Goodsin,” which quickly became the most Shazamed song in Ghana and Nigeria.

The song also broke records as the fastest Ghanaian song by a rookie to reach 10 million digital streams. Its success was largely due to a TikTok challenge started by entertainer and influencer Endurance Grand.

“Goodsin” by Olivetheboy is the longest-running Ghanaian song trend on TikTok so far in 2023, the most-streamed Ghanaian song of the year, and the most-charted Ghanaian song, peaking at number one on several major music charts on the continent.

These achievements have been deemed to be of great value, cementing his position as Chartmetric’s top-ranked Ghanaian artist in 2023, far ahead of the competition. What a feat!

Born Joel Ofori Bonsu (October 19, 2002), Olivetheboy, raised to value education above all else, only began flirting with the idea of going professional with music in 2020 after completing the Opoku Ware Senior High School.

He is currently pursuing a BSc in Metallurgical Engineering at KNUST after dropping out of a Business Administration program at Legon.

But now the only thing Olivetheboy drops is hits. And while he still values school, his music remains in a different class.

As you can see below, here is the proof.
