The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will hold its national and regional elections tomorrow, August 8, 2023.

The elections will be supervised by the Electoral Commission and are expected to be attended by about 500 delegates from across the country.

The presidency is being contested by two candidates: Bessa Simons, the acting MUSIGA president, and Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, the Greater Accra regional chairman for MUSIGA. The 1st vice presidency position will be contested unopposed by gospel musician Thomas Yawson.

Stella Ganyo and gospel artiste Abena Ruthy are vying for the 2nd vice presidency seat, while Samuel Kofi Agyemang and Francis Derman Dogbatse are contesting the general secretary position.

Chizzy Wailer, Gifty Oppong Ghansah, and Edward Edusa Eyison are also going unopposed for the national organizer, welfare officer, and treasurer positions, respectively.

The elections will be held at the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC) in the Greater Accra Region. The process for the elections started with the opening of the voters register on Monday, March 20, which ended on April 3.

The new directive was intended to allow members to check their status and eligibility.

The elections are coming off after years of court injunctions and internal bickering delayed them.

However, MUSIGA is hoping that the elections will be held smoothly and that a new leadership will be elected to chart a new course for the union.
