Ghanaian music sensation Wiyaala has threatened to withdraw from an upcoming event due to her dissatisfaction with the placement of her image on promotional material.
The singer, affectionately known as the “Lioness of Africa,” voiced her displeasure on Facebook, writing, “Honestly, I’m not pleased with this poster going around on social media. Put my picture in the right spot or I’m out. I’m not a backup artist.”
Wiyaala’s ire was sparked by a poster for the Safarifest event, scheduled to take place at the Royal Cosy Hills Safari Resort in Jirapa, Upper West Region.
The poster featured all four billed performers, with Samini in front, followed by Kuami Eugene. Wiyaala’s image was placed last, prompting her to question her perceived status as a backup artist.
Wiyaala’s Facebook post ignited a range of reactions, with some commentators suggesting that her position on the poster didn’t diminish her value as a musician.
Samini Offers Apology
To appease Wiyaala and quell the brewing controversy, Samini extended an unconditional apology, clarifying that he was unaware of the artwork’s circulation.
Samini expressed his admiration for Wiyaala’s talent and emphasized that the placement of her image was not intended to reflect her status as a performer.
The outcome of Wiyaala’s ultimatum remains to be seen, but the incident has highlighted the importance of artist respect and proper representation in promotional materials.
