Grammy-winning artist Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has issued an apology to Nigerian blogs following a controversy stirred by Western blogs questioning his age.
Several Western blogs recently circulated older photos of Burna Boy, casting doubt on his claim of being 32 years old and suggesting he may be older than stated.
Addressing the issue on his Instagram account, Burna Boy clarified that the photos in question were from 2021, not recent, and expressed regret to Nigerian blogs for his previous criticism, noting that the Western blogs’ actions were more egregious.
He stated, “For all the history I’ve been making and records I’ve been setting and breaking, You parasites only care about who might have f*ck, who I’m f*cking, and stupid sh*t like ‘Burna boy shaved his beard’.”
Acknowledging his previous stance, Burna Boy apologized to Nigerian blogs, admitting he had underestimated their influence and suggesting that their behavior may have been influenced by Western media practices.
This incident follows Burna Boy’s earlier threat to take legal action against Nigerian blogs for their coverage of him, after they declined his proposal to refrain from publishing stories about him in exchange for compensation.
