Jeff Arhin, a student at Swedru Senior High School (SWESCO), has captured the hearts of many with his inspiring act of honesty. After discovering a lost purse containing cash, Jeff promptly returned it to the school’s headmistress through a teacher. The headmistress rewarded him with 20 cedis for his integrity. A video of the event quickly went viral, bringing Jeff widespread recognition and admiration.
“I’m very surprised and grateful for all the attention,” Jeff said, still adjusting to the spotlight. “My mum is a baker, and she’s the one who looks after our family. My dad has been unemployed since I was in Year 6.”
Jeff’s family life is a story of resilience and determination. His mother supports their family of seven through her bakery. “We are five boys, and I’m the youngest still in school,” Jeff shared. “My mum gives me 15 cedis each day for school, and I manage with that.”
Despite financial challenges, Jeff is focused on building a bright future. A business studies student, he dreams of becoming a chartered accountant. “I want to qualify as a chartered accountant one day,” he said with a hopeful smile.
While Jeff’s honest deed has earned him admiration, he remains grounded. “I’m just glad I could help someone in need,” he said.
The recognition for Jeff’s integrity didn’t end there. During SWESCO’s annual Thanksgiving and Remembrance Service, held at the West Temple of ICGC in Abossey Okine, the SWESCO Old Students Association, led by Global President Samuel Attah-Mensah, honoured Jeff and his fellow student, Vivian Ocran. Vivian had also played a role in returning the lost purse. The association presented them with citations of honour as a token of appreciation for their exemplary conduct.
As our conversation drew to a close, Jeff expressed heartfelt gratitude for his family’s journey. “My mum works so hard, and I’m thankful for how far we’ve come. I’m very grateful,” he said, embodying humility and hope for the future.
