The National Film Authority (NFA) has announced a new enforcement directive requiring all film industry players to obtain valid licences before submitting content for classification.
In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary, Kafui Danku-Pitcher dated April 11, the Authority emphasised that the move is in line with the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935), which mandates that all films shown publicly in Ghana must first be reviewed and approved by the NFA.
The regulation covers all types of visual content, including feature films, series, short films, trailers, documentaries, music videos, advertisements, and online or televised materials.
Effective 1st May 2025, only licensed producers, distributors, and exhibitors will be permitted to present content for classification.
This measure, according to the NFA, is part of efforts to promote professionalism, maintain industry standards, and support the structured growth of Ghana’s film sector.
