Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has announced plans to provide the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) with an office space in his palace this year.
He said this when officials from the GTA led by its new CEO, Maame Efua Houadjeto paid a courtesy call on him.
The visit was to build a partnership between the Ga Traditional Council and the GTA, especially ahead of the upcoming Homowo festival.
King Tsuru II shared his goals for the collaboration, saying, “We want to raise this platform with you and collaborate to see how best we can even eradicate hunger within Ghana.”
Apart from the Homowo festival, the King also spoke about tourism development in Accra, indicating that there were many places in the city with tourism potential that could help generate income if they were improved.
He believes having a GTA office at the palace will help make efforts to develop these sites more efficient.
Responding to the King’s offer, Houadjeto welcomed the idea and noted that the GTA had already started investing in some tourist sites in city.
“Some of the tourist sites in Greater Accra, GTA has already invested some money into the tourist sites. Example is the lighthouse, the tourism center there—a few years ago we refurbished it but our gentleman who took care of the place is no more so the place hasn’t been well kept so we plan to go back and rehabilitate the tourism center there,” she said.
