Dr. Denise A. Asafu-Adjei, MD, MPH, a proud Asante woman, has made history as the first Black woman to complete a residency in Urology at Columbia University in New York since its founding in 1754.
This monumental achievement marks a significant milestone in breaking barriers and setting new standards in the medical field.
Dr. Asafu-Adjei, known on social platforms as @drdenise_official, currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Urology and the Medical Director of Male Reproductive Medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Her work focuses on men’s health, fertility, and health equity, reflecting her commitment to advancing medical care and representation.
A graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, Dr. Asafu-Adjei also holds a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University.
She further distinguished herself as the first woman to complete an andrology fellowship at UCLA, solidifying her expertise in male reproductive health.
