The New Force Movement has apologised after a troubling incident involving one of its security personnel surfaced online.
A widely circulated video on social media spotted by GhanaWeekend captured a member of the security team physically assaulting an alleged ‘intruder’ at Mamponghene’s funeral over the weekend who tried approaching the movement’s leader, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar.
In an official statement signed by General Secretary Charles Yomekpe, the movement conveyed its remorse over the incident, calling it “deeply saddening and disturbing.”
The statement acknowledged that the individual involved was unarmed, posed no threat, and should have been treated with the dignity and respect owed to every citizen.
“We extend our sincerest apologies to the victim and their family, and to all Ghanaians who rightly expect better conduct from those associated with our movement,” the statement noted.
The New Force reaffirmed its belief that violence has no place in a democracy, where every citizen has the right to engage and express themselves freely.
It strongly denounced the actions of the security team member, describing them as “unjustifiable” and “entirely out of line” with the movement’s guiding principles.
An internal probe is underway, with the movement assuring the public that the individual involved will be held fully accountable both legally and through internal disciplinary measures.
“We are committed to restoring public confidence by ensuring that such behavior is never repeated,” Yomekpe stated, adding appreciation for the public’s vigilance and commitment to upholding the movement to a high standard.
