President John Dramani Mahama has spoken fondly of his son,Sharaf Mahama’s unwavering passion for sports, recounting his early fascination and dedication to the field.
The President made the remarks during a courtesy call at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 16, 2025, by British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua and the Legacy Rise Sports team.
The visit formed part of Joshua’s trip to Ghana to support the “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event, spearheaded by Sharaf Mahama.
Speaking at the meeting, President Mahama shared that Sharaf’s love for sports started at a young age.
“Sharaf has been passionate about sports since childhood. He knew the footballers, their wives even their kids,” the President said.
He added that he allowed his son to follow his dream, which began with football and has since evolved into boxing.
“I allowed him to pursue his passion. He started with football, then moved into boxing.”
Anthony Joshua, who arrived in Ghana on Friday, June 13, has been actively engaging with fans and supporting Sharaf’s initiative to promote boxing and youth empowerment through sport.
The “Battle of the Beasts” event marks a significant milestone in Sharaf Mahama’s efforts to develop the sporting landscape in Ghana, drawing attention from both local and international sports icons.
