The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has strongly condemned an incident captured in a viral video involving a staff member from the Dress Code Compliance Team and a Level 100 female student.
The altercation prompted immediate action from the university’s management.
A prompt internal investigation confirmed the details of the incident, leading UPSA to issue an unconditional apology.
“As a professional university whose core values are integrity, respect, and service… no staff member has the right to mistreat any student under any circumstances,” UPSA said in a statement issued on Thursday July 3.
The Vice-Chancellor personally apologised to the student, and the staff member involved also submitted a written apology. The student, in turn, wrote a letter expressing regret over her actions.
To prevent similar occurrences, UPSA is reviewing its dress‑code enforcement protocols and will provide additional training to the Compliance Team.
The university reaffirmed that its dress code, outlined in the Student Handbook, is meant to prepare students for corporate life and is agreed upon at enrolment.
UPSA emphasised its commitment to upholding rules with respect and civility, ensuring due process for all.
The university reiterated its dedication to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment, assuring stakeholders that the incident has been fully addressed.
