US rap superstar Cardi B, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar is being sued for assault and battery by a woman who claims she was injured after the rapper threw a microphone into the crowd during a 2023 performance at Drai’s Nightclub in Las Vegas.
The plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, alleges that Cardi B encouraged the audience to splash her with water to cool her down. Jane Doe says she complied, along with others in the crowd, but was shocked when Cardi responded by hurling a microphone, which allegedly struck her on the forehead.
Two years after the widely-publicised moment, Jane Doe has filed legal action, naming both Cardi B and the nightclub in the lawsuit. Her attorney, Ciara N. Norris, stated that her client took time to process the incident before pursuing litigation, citing emotional trauma.
Adding fuel to the controversy, the same microphone thrown during the altercation was later auctioned for $99,000. The owner of the venue at the time, WaveWorld, announced that the proceeds would benefit two charities: the Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circles of Vegas.
However, Jane Doe says the sale of the microphone only intensified her emotional distress. “Speaking of wounded,” she reportedly said during a statement, “look at my forehead.” She maintains that the incident left both physical and psychological scars.
The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal and public controversies surrounding celebrity-audience interactions and raises new questions about accountability in live entertainment.
As of now, Cardi B has not issued an official response to the suit.
