A seven-day intensive training workshop focused on the cocoa sector is currently underway in Winneba for selected journalists from across the country.
Organised by Power Avenue Multimedia in partnership with GIZ’s Sustainable Cocoa Programme (SCP), the workshop aims to equip participants with practical knowledge in cocoa production, trade policy, sustainability, and specialized reporting skills across platforms.
The training, which began on Sunday, August 3, and will end on Saturday, August 9, has brought together facilitators from COCOBOD, academia, and the media industry. It combines classroom learning with a field visit to a GIZ-supported cocoa project site in Assin Fosu.
Topics being covered include:
Economic realities and livelihood diversification for cocoa farmers
Policy and international cocoa trade
Climate-smart farming practices
Ethical journalism and investigative reporting
Interview techniques and visual storytelling
Mobile journalism (MoJo) and data journalism
Child labour in cocoa farming
Practical sessions on camera handling, editing, and media ethics are also being led by renowned media professionals, including Mr. Kofi Adu Domfeh, Prof. Godwin Etse Sikanku, Mr. Edward Oppong Marfo, and Mr. Kwadwo Sarpong Amfo.
The workshop also encourages journalists to produce stories based on the training and field experiences, with the best reports to be recognised during a Gala and Awards Night on Friday.
The event is part of broader efforts to strengthen agricultural journalism in Ghana and highlight the role of the media in promoting sustainable cocoa production and responsible sourcing.
