Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie says he was scared during his Rapperholic “Homecoming” concert in Kumasi due to heavy rain that hit just as fans were arriving at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 27.
Speaking during a visit to legendary Kumawood actor Agya Koo at his plush Kumasi mansion after the show, he noted that “It wasn’t easy at all with the rain and it was getting scary, but the love here in Kumasi is totally different, so people still showed up regardless.”
Sarkodie noted that the rain kept stopping and starting, forcing fans to rush for shelter, even though space was limited.
But he noted that it eventually stopped and allowed the free flow of the show.
“The rain stops and starts again and it got to a point I was scared everyone was going to get shelter at a small place, but it eventually stopped.”
Sarkodie used the opportunity to thank actor Agya Koo for supporting the concert. He said lessons had been learned from the experience to help improve future events.
The Rapperholic concert, traditionally held in Accra, was moved to Kumasi this year under the theme “The Homecoming.” Despite the rain, the event drew huge crowds and featured performances from Shatta Wale, Obrafour, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, Kweku Smoke, the Asaaka Boys, and more.
Fans stayed through the night, making the show one of the most memorable in Rapperholic’s history.
