Ghanaian rapper Yaw Tog has opened up about the early days of his career, revealing that his rapid rise to fame came with lessons he learned the hard way.
Speaking in an interview with Kula monitored by Ghana Weekend on Monday October 13, the “Sore” hitmaker admitted that while his breakthrough brought him immense success, it also exposed him to people who didn’t have genuine intentions.
Yaw Tog, who shot to fame in 2020 with his street anthem “Sore” featuring O’Kenneth, City Boy, Reggie, and Jay Bahd, became an international sensation when the remix featuring Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur propelled Ghana’s drill movement onto the global stage.
However, reflecting on that period, the young rapper described his biggest mistake as allowing too many people into his inner circle.
“My worst experience is allowing too many people to also be in the spotlight with me when ‘Sore’ was on,” he confessed. “Cause all those people dem no dey around anymore.”
He further clarified that his regret wasn’t directed at the artistes on the record but rather at the individuals who surrounded him during his rise.
“It’s not about the people on the song but everybody that came around me at that time,” he added.
Yaw Tog’s reflections highlight the pressures of sudden fame and the challenges young artistes face navigating loyalty, trust, and influence in the spotlight.
