Ghanaian contemporary artist Ibrahim Mahama has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the top spot on the prestigious ArtReview Power 100 list an annual ranking that highlights the most influential figures shaping the global art landscape.

The internationally acclaimed list, compiled by ArtReview magazine, recognises artists, curators, collectors, and cultural leaders whose work and influence have left a significant impact on the world of art. Mahama’s rise to the number one position underscores his expanding influence, groundbreaking installations, and his continued commitment to transforming communities through art.

Reacting to the honour, Mahama expressed deep gratitude and humility, dedicating the recognition to the individuals who have shaped his journey.

He acknowledged “all the collaborators, teachers and inspirational figures” who guided him throughout his practice, noting that this achievement reflects a collective effort rather than an individual triumph.

Mahama, known for his monumental installations using materials such as jute sacks and his visionary community projects including the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA) and Red Clay Studio in Tamale continues to elevate Ghana’s presence on the global art stage.

His inclusion at the very top of the ArtReview Power 100 not only celebrates his personal accomplishments but also marks a significant moment for the Ghanaian and African art ecosystem, inspiring a new generation of artists across the continent.
