President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that the Osu Castle will be repurposed and developed as a tourist site, according to Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dziffa Abla Gomashie.
The Minister disclosed this during an interview Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday January 13 noting that plans for the historic structure are currently at the administrative stage.
She explained that once the necessary documentation and procedural requirements are completed, the government will determine the appropriate steps toward transforming the former seat of government into a major tourism attraction.
“The President has indicated that we use the Osu Castle as a tourist site, so when the paperwork is done, we will see what to do,” she stated.
Minister Gomashie emphasised the cultural and historical significance of the Osu Castle, adding that its redevelopment aligns with broader efforts to preserve Ghana’s heritage while expanding the country’s tourism offerings.
The move is expected to enhance heritage tourism in Accra and provide visitors with deeper insight into Ghana’s political history and colonial past.
