Jamaican dancehall star Popcaan has been enstooled as a chief in the Asebu Traditional Area in Ghana’s Central Region, marking a historic milestone for both the artist and the community.
The coronation ceremony took place on Monday February 17, 2026, drawing traditional leaders, residents, and admirers to witness the occasion.
Popcaan was bestowed the stool name Nana Arkoh Kese I and installed as Aboafohen (Development Chief) of the Apagyahen Division, a role centered on championing growth and development initiatives within the area.
Videos from the ceremony circulating online show the musician adorned in a richly patterned kente cloth, with symbolic herbs tied around his neck.
In keeping with custom, chiefs performed the enstoolment rites, placing him on the stool three times to signify his formal acceptance and legitimacy as a traditional leader.
The enstoolment underscores the deepening cultural ties between the Caribbean and West Africa, and highlights Popcaan’s growing influence beyond music, now extending into heritage, leadership, and community development.
