President John Mahama says Ghana’s economic growth will not be shaped solely by traditional media and conventional sectors, but increasingly by human creativity powered through digital and new media platforms.
He made the remarks on Friday, February 27, while delivering the State of the Nation Address at the Parliament House.
According to the President, Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sectors hold enormous potential to drive national development and global visibility.
He noted that creatives leveraging new media platforms are giving the country unprecedented prominence on the international stage, far beyond what even first-class traditional media outlets could achieve.
“Our economy will not be built only by traditional sectors but also by human creativity,” Mahama said, stressing the growing importance of digital innovation in national economic planning.
He further explained that creative industries would play a critical role in absorbing workers who may be displaced by emerging artificial intelligence technologies currently being introduced into the global workforce.
“These human creativity sectors will absorb people who will be displaced from the shop floor by new AI technologies,” he stated.
President Mahama also highlighted Ghana’s rising profile as a preferred tourist destination, attributing it to the country’s rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse creative expressions.
“Ghana has become a favourite tourist destination because of our history, culture, our arts, our music, our fashion, and our food,” he added.
