Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has boldly declared that he has always known he is the fastest rapper in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on Tuesday, March 3, the rapper addressed ongoing conversations on social media about his rap speed and lyrical dexterity.
According to him, although many fans and music lovers have recently tagged him as the fastest rapper in the country, he has personally believed that long before the public recognition.
“The crazy thing about that is I’ve always known I was the fastest rapper in Ghana since before I started,” he said.
Despite his confidence in his speed, Lyrical Joe explained that he never wanted to box himself into that label. He emphasised that rap is a multifaceted art form that goes beyond just delivering fast verses.
“Rapping fast is just one branch outside of rapping. Rap is a whole tool. You have to know how to do storytelling, wordplay, rhyme schemes, metaphors; you should know how to rap. If you don’t know how to rap fast, it’s cool you can still be a rapper,” he noted.
He added that while he acknowledges his ability, he was cautious about being branded solely as the fastest rapper in Ghana.
The rapper also reflected on some of his past releases, particularly diss tracks from rap feuds. He admitted that he regrets putting out some of those songs.
Lyrical Joe cited an instance during a lyrical back-and-forth with a Cameroonian opponent, where he referenced a tragic incident involving a lake disaster in Cameroon. Looking back, he described that moment as excessive.
“It was go time… but later I regretted putting it out. It was crazy,” he admitted.
The rapper’s comments reveal a more reflective side of the artist, showing growth beyond competitive rap battles while maintaining confidence in his craft.
