IWD: ‘Be fearless and focused’ – Kate Henshaw urges women

Renowned Nigerian actress Kate Henshaw has delivered a powerful message of courage and self-belief to women, urging them to embrace fearlessness and stay true to their individual journeys.

Speaking at the 2026 edition of Women of Valour, held in London on Saturday, March 7, Henshaw encouraged women to recognise their worth even in moments of doubt.

According to the actress, life often tests people in ways that make them question their identity and capabilities.

“Life will test you, it will make you doubt yourself, it will question you, and it will stretch you. It will ask you again and again, are you sure?” she said.

She stressed that every person’s path in life is unique and should not be compared with others.

“Your journey is singular; it’s not a group WhatsApp call,” she noted, explaining that even close friends with similar lifestyles ultimately walk different paths.

The actress also challenged women to reflect on who they truly are beyond material possessions and public validation.

“Who are you when the hair is gone, the clothes are off, the shoes are off, and the bags are not there? Who are you?” she asked the audience.

Henshaw explained that true fearlessness is deeply personal and rooted in self-recognition rather than public applause.

“It’s not for the applause; it is for alignment. It is for you to recognise who you are even when no one else believes in you,” she added.

Addressing the role of fear in personal growth, she admitted that she still experiences fear, particularly before stepping onto a stage to perform.

“I still get afraid,” she said, noting that a sense of nervousness helps push individuals to strive for excellence instead of becoming complacent.

“Fear will whisper, ‘Who are you? You’re not enough. Someone is better out there.’ But every time you move forward instead of retreating, you are choosing fearlessness,” she stated.

The Women of Valour initiative was founded by Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah to highlight stories of courage, resilience and transformation among women.

Held annually around International Women’s Day, the event brings together women from diverse backgrounds to share personal, social and professional experiences.

The 2026 edition, themed “The Pursuit of Fearlessness,” also featured Ghanaian actress Nana Ama McBrown among other notable personalities who shared inspiring stories with participants.
