Fameye has opened up about his decision to cut off his signature locs, clarifying that the move was not influenced by societal pressure or perceptions about appearance.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Prime on Wednesday, April 15, Fameye said his new look is simply a natural progression in his life rather than a calculated change.
When asked why he decided to switch up his hairstyle, Fameye downplayed the idea of a deliberate transformation.
“I didn’t change it. Anything I do is not because of change. It’s just because it’s happening like that—that’s how it’s supposed to be,” he explained, adding that the energy around him aligns with his decisions.
Addressing the perception in Ghana that people with dreadlocks are sometimes not taken seriously, especially in professional or business settings, Fameye firmly rejected the notion that such stigma influenced his decision.
“No, no, no. But people respect me. If you don’t respect me, that’s fine,” he stated.
While acknowledging that such stereotypes exist, he suggested that they reflect broader societal attitudes rather than his personal reality.
According to Fameye, his decision to cut his locs is more deeply connected to his personal journey and artistic evolution.
“For me, I don’t think stigma is the reason why I have my locks off. It’s just because I’m trying to understand what is happening in my life and connecting to where my art direction is taking me,” he said.
